Bighorn River, Wyoming Fly Fishing: Stoke

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

Tim H. stoke

Stoke!

Fishing Report:

Weather is mild and fishing remains excellent. Fish are holding in the slower deeper water.

NYMPHS: have produced best with your standard tailwater bugs producing. Scuds, midges, eggs, crayfish, did I mention midges….

STREAMERS: slow retrieves have been producing well. If your into the two-hander game…. swinging em up has been producing if your patient…. small and olive….hint hint.

DRY FLY: midge clusters for the risers. we love the buzzball tied in darker colors for this kind of fishing. The old standard Griffith Gnat is deadly as well.

Capt. Charles is back from Panama!

Monday, December 17th, 2012

75 cent ice is my favorite thing about Thermopolis

I just returned from 31 days exploring Panama with a surfboard, fishing rods, and a mission to find a winter fishery. A successful trip for sure. I am back for the holidays and for my Sister’s Wedding in New York. I will be doing presentations at a number of hunting and fishing clubs around the Tri-State Area promoting 307 Outfitters as well as Lone Peak Outfitters out of Bozeman, Montana.

Fishing Report from Panama:

SICK. Roosterfish, Trevally, Dorado, Tuna, Big Cubera Snapper, Snook, and as many Bonito as you could ever want. Only one problem. I broke my camera Halloween weekend before I left. I guess mental memories will have to sustain. It doesn’t however make my fishing reports/bragging to clients and friends very easy.

jetboat trips for the spring

Saturday, December 15th, 2012

Capt. Charles is wrapping up his 30 day fishing and surfing adventure in Panama. The 2012 season was amazing in both Montana and Wyoming. The Bighorn River produced some great fish and amazing days for our anglers. We are looking forward to the upcoming 2013 season with great anticipation. Spring is right around the corner for us here in Thermopolis, Wyoming. We usually get cranking around the last week of feb or beginning of March if the weather permits. This early fishing is some of the best we have. Steve Beaz is ready and pumped for another season as well. Remember we offer Jetboat trips in both Montana and Wyoming which is truly a fun and enjoyable way to fish our fisheries. Let us know about your 2013 trip!

Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming Fishing Report

Another Bighorn River Brown Trout falls to the purple chubby!

We are getting lots of complaints about moss on the river. We agree it is a pain. You will have to clean your fly every drift even when fishing big dries. Nymphing is out of the question, as is streamer fishing. The Trico hatch remains consistent and fish are keyed in on them! If you are willing to deal with the moss and floating salad it can be rewarding.  When fishing blind fishing terrestrials change up your pattern until you get on that works. The bigger and bulkier the better at least for us. Give us a call! 307.438.0740.

big browns, bigger water

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

laramie with a big streamer brown

another big streamer eater

The Wind River is currently flowing high at 5200 cfs. Nymphing has become difficult but streamers with enough work and dedication have been producing big time for us. We usually catch some of our biggest browns this time of the year. High water pushes the big fish to the bank and we saw enough big chasers and had enough hooks ups to confirm it. Wedding of the Waters has mud coming in at Buffalo Creek but it remains fish-able. Our recommendation is to float from WOW to the Hot Springs State Park. Give us a call we have openings until the 16th of June! 307.438.0740

huge rainbows

Monday, May 30th, 2011

chris elrod with one of many rainbows

another pig rainbow

Sorry for the lack of updates, we have been busy on the rivers. Fishing remains excellent. Runoff is in full effect which means all of our freestones are toast for now. The Wind River below Boysen is the best bet for clear water in our area. Flows are high and are at 3,940 cfs as of this morning. We have openings for STREAMER fishing on the jetboat for the next two weeks. This is one of the best shots in the state for big browns and bows on big streamers. Give us a call if your interested in our $400 discounted June Jetboat trips.
