Thermopolis Brown Trout

Ashley  with one of many big brown trout from the week

Finally  back from Montana and guiding on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. It feels good to be back on the homestretch. After guiding all season on the fabled blue ribbon trout stream outside of Bozeman, Montana I realize how unique this one fishery in central Wyoming is. I am really looking forward to guiding all of September here and we do have some openings. Steve B will be on hand guiding most of the month as well.  Give us a call at 307.438.0740.

Now for a fishing report:

Bobber: You cannot go wrong subsurface. The fish are eating nymphs in the deep runs and thru the shallows. Scuds, caddis, small yellow pmd nymphs have all been producing. The shallow 2 to 4 foot sections are stacked with rainbows.

Dry/Dropper: Deadly. The Hopper/dropper has been deadly and our main way to attack the river.

Dry: Commit to the hopper or cricket and you will be rewarded. Certain sections of the river are better than others. It has been hit or miss with the terrestrials. Some of the biggest browns are looking up for the hopper!

Thermopolis Wyoming Fly Fishing Report 9.22.12

Paul B with a beautiful streamer caught rainbow!

Cold nights and warm days have made for some incredible fishing on the Bighorn River in Thermopolis, Wyoming. We have been out everyday since the 3rd of September and will continue guiding into November. Fishing on the river has been great. Streamers, Nymphs, and of course Dries have all been catching fish.  The Hopper bite has started to slow down, but it is still producing some big fish if you stick to it all day. We have been out chasing heads most mornings and nights looking for the “ONE.” Give us a call if you would like a day with one of our amazing guides. We guarantee you will catch fish or you will get your money back. Give us a call. 307.438.0740

Tom H. with one of many on top!

We have been all over the place guiding. The Bighorn River in Thermopolis remains fishable but the floating moss is becoming a serious problem for all anglers. Be prepared to clean your hooks every cast.  Capt. C spent three days guiding Tom H. and his son Colin last week and fishing was steady. Tricos in the am and terrestrials for the remainder of the day. Come out and enjoy!

Give us a call at 307.438.0740

guide steve b. with a rainbow starting to show color

THIS JUST IN FROM OUR WEDDING OF THE WATERS SPECIALIST!

State Park water temps 44 degrees. Lots of fisherman on the spawners which are just starting. cool weather slowed them down a little. First thing i step out of the truck, look over the bank and watch two idiots wade back and forth through one of the best REDDS in the area. I had to get back in my truck and leave. Went above the tresse…l and I had good success with some browns in the deep holes dead drifting streamers. Water temp below the Wedding about 39 degrees. Fish were hungry and have moved a little shallower. Most we found were 4-5 foot deep. Starting to look at eggs, worms and scuds working but the best all day long was black midge pupae. Several nice cutts and browns along with the rainbow. 7 boats on the river. Amazingly, 4 of them were not catching fish. Fish were stacked allowing us to get multiple hookups on most every run. We had several doubles and that’s with me rowing the boat!!
