winter fly fishing wyoming

Monday, February 28th, 2011

toughen up its worth the pain. some people have been putting up some big #’s of wild fish below boysen.  got a report from our wedding of the waters specialist who headed to the state park…

From Steve: Quality time fishing the State park section of the wind river yesterday. Fish are moving into the riffles. Pre-spawning activity and are HUNGRY. Caught nice assortment of wild fish, 16 – 26 inches. Two Cutt-bows. Water is CRYSTAL CLEAR. I could see fish in water over 10 ft deep. Some stealth required. Only bad news, thermometer dropping again, severly. Rumor has it that Bur Rec will start increasing flows as soon as the ice is off the river north of Thermopolis. should make for some outstanding spring fishing. Respect the Redds, wade someplace else!!

the best part about this report??? not ONE broodstock caught. all wild rainbows… get after them with this warm up. fish are eating the standard winter fair and have yet to key in on eggs yet. this should change in a few weeks. stay warm and fish hard. tight lines

steve b with a big wyoming brown

decided to get out today and fish with steve b. fishing was solid on streamer regardless of no cloud cover. today was warm and sunny. we saw lots of yellow sallies and big caddis. nymphing would have produced more number, but we chose to huck meat. we landed 2 browns and one bow. we lost 5 more rainbows that threw the hooks, including the biggest fish of the day. life is good in central wyoming and i am too tired to write a fishing report. more to come tomorrow. book your trip now.

307 outfitters is pleased to announce that our lunches will now be provided by Lander’s famous Gannet Grill. we are really looking forward to teaming up with them and look forward to enjoying their great food stream-side. Lander, Wyoming is a great summer town with a lot of activities for all to enjoy. we have great rock-climbing, hiking, and did I mention the fishing. I am going to take the weekend off and fish for myself with a few buddys from Casper. we are going to get out on the jet and see how the wind is fishing. we haven’t been over below the dam in 2 weeks due to water conditions and calving on the ranch. should be a blast. more to come. be sure to book your end of july, august and september hopper trips.

good fishing, interesting weather

Monday, April 26th, 2010

here are a few photos from the week. it has been a great past few days. the weather has been uncooperative for the most part, but if you can handle the constant wind and weather this fishing is really solid. I have had the opportunity to fish for myself this past week and its been a lot of fun. lander is a great town, the people are friendly, the views are spectacular, and the fish willingly take a fly. I have met a lot of very receptive people so far and look forward to this upcoming summer.  one contact in particular, ron hansen, of Wind River Outdoors Company, just solved my biggest problem of living in lander, last minute fly fishing supplies that are close by. his shop is going to opened up by the end of May and if you are ever in the Lander area be sure to stop by and say hello. the wind is supposed to pick up tomorrow and ill be on the river. standard. this time I will bring a camera. I managed to stick a big hen a few nights ago. I taped her out at 26.5. life is good.

i’m driving down to utah and can still blog. way too connected for my own good. a mifi and macbook pro go a long way. ill be in park city utah for the week not fishing. should be a good time. fishing this past week was lights out. the LOG will be a rodeo when i get back. i had a buddy fish there yesterday and said there were 10 plus boats. many of which were rogue guiding. you boys know who you are. its pretty hard to play off fishing with 2 50 year olds when you in your 20′s. “i swear they are my friends….” oh well to each their own. i won’t be updating the blog this week. the website should be launched by the end of the week, and i will be transferring from blogger to wordpress.. until then.. be a fisherman not a wisherman!

this is my boy pimperatze. lighting fish up. trying to convince him to come out west and rip some lips with 307 outfitters
